The new Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA 2020) as it affects churches is worse than RUGA which sought to seize native land from their owners and give it to relatives of the ruling cabal. It is still born out of the domineering spirit of this cabal that is desperate to take over and control that which does not belong to them. They are jealous of the prosperity' of the church and the advancement of Christianity in Nigeria and intend to emasculate it using CAMA regulation as a garb. But they will fail.
It is sacrilegious to think that a non-Christian will determine what constitutes misconduct or mismanagement in the activities of a church when he knows nothing about church tenets and practices, when he is not an ordained minister of the gospel, when he does not have the Holy Spirit. What will be the basis of his judgement and decision? Personal standards are no measuring rods for the propriety or impropriety of church activities.. The church is established to serve God and do His will, not that of anybody. How can someone who is not a follower of Christ be empowered to dissolve the trustees of the church of Christ and appoint other people to manage it? This hatred for the church because of its increasing prosperity' must cease.
The church is supposed to be the wealthiest organization in the world because the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. The resources of the church do not come from the government but from Christians who give God's due from their resources back to Him. This we call tithe and offering. And of course any Christian can give to God in addition as he deems fit.The gifts are always voluntary and never out of compulsion. They are not shares from which the givers expect returns or profit. So, why is the government desperate to control church fund, God's money? I am sure that if those who made these law are asked to explain what it means to mismanage church money, they cannot explain it. I know they will call the building of mighty church cathedrals mismanagement, when they themselves live in mansions and frolic in the best hotels in the world. I know they will say pastors who are living comfortably have mismanaged church funds because they believe that the good things of life are the exclusive rights of non-worshippers of God. To them, poverty is for the church and prosperity is for the world.
Church administration is an internal thing and members of the church should be left to manage their affairs. Any pastor or church leader that is involved in fraudulent activities with church money should be charged to court and tried according to the law of our land. This is the properr thing to do.
