The African of today
needs to have a change in mindset. This is because our society needs a more
advanced Educational and Technological Policy to be the next most vibrant
civilization.
India will be the next
World’s IT hub because they are attracting inventors.
Refined and focused
development requires education, which should be prioritized over every other
sector of the economy because it is the only attribute that makes a man
superior to an animal and a predominant character in the universe.
In Nigeria, we are
teaching our children, obsolete, outdated courses and curriculum. The books of
the courses we are covering in our colleges and tertiary institutions were
written before our birth and are constantly becoming useless and outdated.
Our educational policy
encourages the more intelligent students who score high marks in their JAMB
examinations to pursue their education in Universities and Polytechnics while
the weak students are earmarked for colleges of education to be trained as
teachers. How then can we give the best to our students?
We need an Afrocentric
National Policy on Education which should be redefined to transform our mind
and society in such a way that we deviate from following the interest of neocolonialists
and focus more in solving the problems faced by the African Continent.
We need to undo the
brainwashing of the neocolonialists that has made us lose confidence in our
cultural heritage and traditional values.
Our doctors,
pharmacists and other professionals should be encouraged to focus their
research on traditional methods of solving African problems.
Our IT sector should
be focused on finding methods aimed at African societal transformation by
supporting the educational sector in finding solutions to problems that are
peculiar to the African continent such as carrying out credible elections
without rigging and revolutionizing the learning process at an early stage in
the education of our children. We need a
society where news channels telecast programmes on IT revolution and educational
competitions rather than celebrities, sex, irrelevant issues such as Pastors,
tithes, sowing seeds, miracles, prayers etc.
Our Society idolizes
money more than ideas and innovation.
As a key to our change
in mindset, we should be guided by the philosophy of unconditional love
irrespective of our religious, ethnic, national, regional and other differences.
We should in our daily
relationship crave for peace with all men, exhibit courage in all that we do,
holding fast to that which is Good. Avoid rendering evil for evil, supporting
and strengthening the weak and faint hearted, Honour everyone and assist the
afflicted, love and serve the CREATOR (whatever we conceive Him to be), Rejoice
in the power of the great comforter - The Holy Spirit. And Pray that our
leaders will eschew selfishness and greed and do what is right. It is then that
our society can enjoy the breakthrough we earnestly desire and enjoy the
blessing of OLODUMARE in the Trinity.
